I choose not to use my actual name to ensure my privacy, so I go by Stoney.
I am a close friend of Del's and we met one another while we both lived in WA. state. We were both "legal" medical cannabis users under state law. Del re-located back to his home state of North Dakota about three years ago, while I had no choice but to stay in WA. state. In 2005 while stopped at a red light, I was rear ended by another driver which resulted in severe injuries to my low back and spine, it was during this time that I had gone through hell and back with 2 surgery's and not much in the form of any pain relief. I've used a host of prescription pain relievers that were borderline at best for relieving my severe pain.
It was during this time that I was nearly out of options for getting any relief from my constant pain, and my doctors were getting tired of filling narcotic pain prescriptions for me, so I found myself in a position with-out much choice, I decided that using cannabis might offer some relief. as surprising as it sounded it actually helped to relieve my pain, I wont stretch the truth and say that I became "pain free" but I will say that before using cannabis, on a scale of 1-10 my level of pain was constantly between 8 & 10.
After using cannabis my levels dropped to 3-4, with-out much in the form of side effects. I have come to realize that using cannabis for pain control was a blessing in my case.
I just re-located to North Dakota for a couple of reasons, one of them being financial, I only received a modest settlement from the accident and housing here is very inexpensive compared to just about anywhere else in the U.S. and I am a family man with 3 minor children, I am permanently disabled as well, and it would've only been a matter of time before me and my family would have ended up "homeless" another reason was Del, Del has been more like family to me than anyone I've ever known, and real friends are hard to find.
Now that I'm living in North Dakota, its important for me to do what ever I can to change the law with regards to the use of marijuana for medical purposes. Currently there are no laws in North Dakota that allow for the use of marijuana for medical purposes. I have again had to try and control my pain with narcotic pain pills.... I'm currently taking 90Mg's of M.S. Contin (morphine sulfate) which does help but doesn't come with-out side effects that limit my ability to function as a norml person.
It's time for a change in the way we think about cannabis and how it applies to patients that are suffering each and every day.
using cannabis for medical purposes has been successful in 13 states and its time to add North Dakota to the growing list of medical use states.
